About me (and the thimbles)
Kimberly Reynolds
Technical Proposal Writer, CSCI Consulting, 2021 - Present
Marketing and Communications Manager, OneAmerica, 2015 - 2021
MA in Writing, Rhetoric and Discourse, DePaul University, 2012
BA in Mass Communication, Anderson University, 2008
When I was in third grade, I had a "travel buddy," a pink and purple gorilla I called Binky. It was for a school project, and we were supposed to send our buddies on adventures with friends and family, so I sent Binky on a three-month bender with a family friend, who was a pilot.
You can watch the whole adorable story here, but the point is, Binky nailed it. He sent me postcards, kept a journal and at the end of the whole deal, brought me back five porcelain thimbles. Luckily, third-grade me knew an opportunity when I saw it, and here I am, 25 years later, with hundreds of thimbles in my collection. They're my tiny treasures, and each one tells a little bit of my story, from Binky to now.
And for me? That's what it's all about. Whether I'm writing a blog post, brainstorming taglines or collaborating on communications strategy, it's all about the stories I'm telling with the words I choose. Every word we write holds the power to shape our readers' experiences, and we owe it to them to choose wisely.
As a writer, editor and communicator, I'm interested in harnessing that shaping power for causes and people that are cultivating good. And that's what I've been doing, from crafting communications to studying writing and rhetoric in hopes of empowering more writers to thrive.
Hop over to my portfolio to see more of my philosophy in action, or visit my LinkedIn page for my career rundown. Sound like I might be a good fit for your next project? I'd love to hear from you!
